This client is a leader in the renewable energy market as a significant contributor to the production of sustainably produced energy for the home market.
This role will be reporting to the group SHE Manager, you will be a pivotal member of the SHE Team providing real time, face-to-face support and guidance to both the SHE team and the operational site teams on SHE related matters.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a high-level working knowledge of site environmental permits and discharge consent agreements and contribute to discussions in relation to site operations and maintaining compliance.
- Provide working knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry guidance IED, WI BAT, LCP BAT, BS EN 14181, EA TGNs and supplementary guides to achieve cost effective compliance.
- Liaise with site staff preparing for audits (internal & external) and provide support during operator monitoring assessments and external audits.
- Provide hands on technical advice and support during environmental monitoring of emissions to air, compliance tests and BS EN 14181 calibration campaigns through the manipulation of real time data, and the provision of early warning of failures and non-compliance.
- Provide assistance with interpretation reviewing laboratory monitoring reports (air, water, residue) and the upward reporting internally and externally.
- Review station activities to confirm compliance with regulatory requirements for emission monitoring to air and water, and where necessary assist sites to regain compliance promoting the use of the SHE Management System.
- Review Agency compliance assessment reports to identify corrective / remedial actions and assist site to manage and deliver cost effective improvements in accordance with the management system.
- Assist station staff undertaking QA QC cheques of emission monitoring systems and utilisation of results to accurately assess condition and performance of equipment.
- Provide group and station staff with advice on regulatory requirements, appropriate selection of contracted services, suitability of equipment and methods of achieving compliance.
- Provide technical expertise to station staff during the production and preparation of regulatory reports and correspondence.
- Maintain contact with industry bodies, equipment and system suppliers, permit issuing bodies and contracted service providers to ensure up to date information relating to emission monitoring and compliance is disseminated to station and group staff.
- Attend monthly site SHE meetings to ensure continued awareness of site environmental issues and performance.
- Promote the sharing of best practice and learnings from across the group.
- Support or take the lead in investigations of environmental accidents and incidents at sites, identifying root causes and appropriate corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence. Publicise and distribute learnings opportunities across the group.
- Carry out inspections and audits on site liaising with employees and monitoring contractors, whilst checking MCERTS accreditation to ensure continued compliance and site policies and procedures.
- Identify the need for changes to such documents to support continuous improvement.
- Work with the site to look for workable solutions where possible, rather than simply highlighting deficiencies.
- Deliver a monthly update / report to site management teams and SHE Manager detailing activities completed at sites during the month and update on progress on relevant environmental topics.
What you need
- Knowledge and experience (desirable) Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a power generation facility or similar.
- Comprehensive understanding of environmental compliance within the power generation sector specifically large combustion and waste incineration plants.
- NEBOSH Certificate in Environmental Management.
- Experience of environmental monitoring of emissions to air and water including equipment, techniques and methodologies.
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for process operator, BS EN 14181, MCERTS performance standard for the self-monitoring of flow.
- Experience in Quality Management / Quality Assurance principles and their application and auditing.
- Able to work well as part of a team, but also self-motivated and able to manage one’s own time and prioritise activities to meet site requirements.
- Confident, but also approachable with excellent communication skills and ability to influence people.
- Holder of WAMITAB Certification for treatment of hazardous waste, desirable.
- Ability to solve problems and think innovatively.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Teams, a high level of competency in Excel is essential.
