Our client is an established institutional investor and asset owner in the renewable energy sector, specialising in
large-scale Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and other renewable technologies.
About the Opportunity
Working within the development team, you will lead and take ownership of grid connection activities from early
feasibility through to energisation, and construction, supporting projects including solar PV, battery energy storage
(BESS), and other low-carbon infrastructure. This is a specialist position, ideal for someone who enjoys managing
complex connection strategies and working with key industry stakeholders.
The Role
You will be responsible for developing and implementing connection strategies that maximise project viability while
ensuring connection programmes are delivered efficiently.
The role requires close collaboration with transmission and distribution network operators, engineering consultants
and working closely with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), the National Energy System Operator (NESO),
and the relevant Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to secure and manage network connections throughout the
project lifecycle.
You will also oversee commercial aspects of connection works, including managing external providers, monitoring
budgets and ensuring projects progress in line with programme milestones.
Key Responsibilities
Grid Connections
The role is responsible for overseeing transmission and distribution grid connections, Develop grid connection
strategies for renewable energy developments across the UK.
Assess potential connection opportunities during site selection and project development.
Manage connection applications from initial enquiry through to final energisation.
Review connection offers and coordinates technical responses where required.
Monitor network availability, capacity constraints and regulatory developments affecting project delivery.
Support project teams with technical advice relating to electrical infrastructure and network capacity.
Commercial & Project Delivery
Manage the procurement and appointment of specialist connection contractors and technical consultants.
Oversee budgets associated with grid connection works, ensuring accurate forecasting and cost control.
Coordinate project programmes to ensure connection activities align with wider development milestones.
Identify delivery risks and develop mitigation strategies where necessary.
Stakeholder Management
Build strong working relationships with transmission operators, distribution network operators and other
industry stakeholders.
Represent the business during technical discussions relating to connection agreements and project delivery.
Track developments in grid connections reform, including queue management and gate processes, and
represent their position to NESO and DNOs accordingly.
Prepare reports for senior management outlining programme progress, risks and commercial implications.
Work collaboratively with engineering, development, construction and investment teams.
Technical Compliance
Ensure projects comply with relevant UK electrical standards and connection requirements.
Coordinate technical studies and engineering assessments where required.
Maintain accurate project documentation throughout the development process.
Keep up to date with industry changes, regulatory reforms and evolving grid connection processes.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent project management and
stakeholder engagement skills.
You are likely to have:
Experience managing grid connections for renewable energy or electrical infrastructure projects.
A solid understanding of both transmission and distribution connection processes.
Experience taking projects through to successful energisation.
Knowledge of UK grid connection regulations and industry standards.
Experience managing external engineering consultants and contractors.
Strong commercial awareness, including budget management and procurement.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Confidence communicating with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:
Solar PV
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Co-located renewable energy projects
High voltage electrical infrastructure
Network planning or power systems
Grid studies and connection assessments
Renewable energy project development
Knowledge of G99, G100, ENA engineering recommendations and UK grid compliance requirements would be beneficial, together with familiarity with industry software used for electrical network analysis.
