£35,000 - £42,000 + Overtime + On-Call + Vehicle + Company Benefits

Job Purpose: As a Solar & Battery Storage Technician, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of utility-scale battery storage plants and ground-mounted solar PV plants. Based in the Cambridge/Bury St Edmunds/Ely/Newmarket areas, this is a field-based role where you will ensure the plants operate safely, efficiently, and within budget. This permanent position requires participation in weekend on-call duties as part of a rota, with overtime opportunities available.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform inspection, testing, and maintenance of AC/DC systems, inverters, and communication equipment (Ethernet, RS485, fibre optics)
  • Diagnose and repair faults, ensuring quick response and effective resolution
  • Maintain health and safety standards and contribute to the continuous improvement of safety practices
  • Conduct planned maintenance and inspections in compliance with legal, manufacturer, and contractual requirements
  • Support subcontractors by ensuring their work adheres to safety and quality standards
  • Travel between sites regularly, with occasional travel for training or site coverage
  • Keep accurate records and compile reports on maintenance activities

Required Knowledge & Experience:

  • Strong understanding of solar PV technology (MW-scale or large commercial ground-mount)
  • Experience with SCADA systems, high-voltage switchgear, and communication networks
  • Familiarity with central inverters and battery storage technology (training provided)
  • Experience with DC and LV installation, fault finding, testing, and commissioning
  • Capable of writing and revising Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Previous experience working remotely and handling solar PV installation and O&M

Qualifications:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Approved Electrician status
  • Valued qualifications: Inspection & Testing (e.g., C&G 2391 or 2394/5)
  • Desirable: First Aid certification and Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely, SMSTS)
